ONWARDS TO MENINGIE AND THE COORONG

 

 

 

 

The Coorong and Murray Lakes region is a vast unspoiled ecosystem comprised of freshwater lakes, wetlands, ocean beach and saltwater protected from the Southern Ocean by the sweeping sand dunes.

It is an important breeding area for the Australian pelican and a refuge for ducks, swans, cormorants, terns, grebes and over 230 migratory birds that travel annually from Siberia, Alaska, Japan and China. We saw heaps but were on the move in our little ferry so no fabulous rare bird pics. Not only did they film the movie Stormboy in the Coorong, the Coorong is a place of tranquility, solitude and wonderment. We absolutely loved it. 

 

 

 

 The town of Meningie next to Lake Albert was a great place to start our journey.

We jumped aboard the boat at Goolwa for the "Coorong Ultimate Cruise". It didn't disappoint.

OVER THE BORDER TO SA

Over the border and first stop was Mount Gambier. Home of sink holes, gardens, caves, the Blue Lake and  the James Morrison Youth Jazz Academy.  Headed south to Port Macdonnel where we sampled the beautiful fish n chips twice........yummee.

Next stop was Robe. What a fabulous place this is. Beautiful seafood. Still the wild coastline but some beautiful swimming beaches also. Plenty of wineries around these parts also.
