ZEEHAN, THE TARKINE, ARTHUR RIVER

We headed up to Zeehan. Once upon a time Zeehan was the 3rd largest city in Tasmania due to thriving silver and copper mining. Hard to believe these days but a very interesting place.

 The old Gaiety Theatre

Onwards to  Smithton to explore the Tarkine region and the far north west where we took in natural and dramatic landscapes, rainforests, eye catching wilderness and breathtaking coastlines. This area is where the recent bushfires raged over the summer months. It is another magnificent part of Tassie.

 View from the loo, Smithton.

Rainforest areas were fantastic

Trowutta Arch, a huge sinkhole

Lake Chisholm

Bush fire landscape although devastating still had a beauty about it.

Out to the coastline, wild and windswept.

Aboriginal rock carvings on the beach thought to be 1000's of years old.

We found it interesting to see cows roaming down to the beach.

Next was a cruise down the Arthur River, only 1% of tourists who visit Tassie come to the Tarkine, Arthur River area. It was amazing to see this untouched wilderness.

 Sea Eagles and nest

Over to "The Edge of The World". This truly was a wild windy place. Certainly blew our cobwebs away, difficult to stand upright , almost sent us horizontal at times.

Back to Burnie now for a not so fun trip to the dentist.
