VICTORIA'S SILO ART TRAIL

We left Bendigo and headed into Victoria's Wimmera Mallee region to travel along the Silo Art Trail. We marvelled at the images painted on the silos......truly spectacular. We also marvelled at the amount of wheat crops throughout this region.

 

Can you believe it.......a town out here named after a Frenchman, St Arnaud.

The Stick Shed at Murtoa was something to behold. Completed in 1942 as an emergency grain store during WW2. How they built these amazing structures never ceases to amaze.

We ate all our fruit and veges and crossed the border into SA to discover the painting of silos is catching on. Below a couple of pics from Coonalpyn.

BENDIGO VICTORIA

Bendigo was originally a gold rush boom town in Victoria, it's home to the mid-1900s Central Deborah Gold Mine. Vintage Trams run through the city and yes we took a ride. Magnificent old buildings line all the streets. A great place to visit, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Central Deborah Gold Mine

 The Ulumbarra Theatre rises from within the walls of Bendigo's former Sandhurst Gaol into a state of the art performance centre. It was fantastic. We would have loved to go to a show there but nothing on at the time. How they mixed the old gaol with the new modern additions was just brilliant. The elder member of the Chookpen would have loved a sing there......... He did squeak in a few notes.
