GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY

We have had a great time heading along the inland route to Broome. Internet and phone access is intermittent so it has been at times difficult to stay in touch.

New Norcia is 132 km north of Perth, along the Great Northern Highway.   New Norcia is the only monastic town in Australia and was first settled in 1847. You have to marvel at the way they managed to build places like this back then.

 Stopped at the pub.

Some things you just have to give way too

The town of  Payne's Find was named after Tom Payne who discovered gold there in the early 1900's. Not much else there besides a roadhouse these days.

The buildings of Cue show signs of a once booming gold rush town. There is still heaps of mining being done around this region.

It was further northward towards Newman and beyond as we watched the changing landscapes.
